Commercial Sand Filters
American Manufacturing Company, Inc. provides a Recirculating Sand Filter (RSF) treatment equipment package that combines controls, pumps, valves, and additional engineered components to help designers deliver reliable and economical wastewater treatment systems. Recirculating sand filters have been widely used for more than 50 years and follow EPA standards for achieving consistent treatment. These systems use sand or gravel and controlled recirculation to enhance biological treatment and produce higher quality filtered secondary effluent. RSF systems are typically used for flows up to approximately 60,000 gallons per day forward flow. American Manufacturing supports engineers, installers, and regulators with system design assistance and installation guidance.
Engineering design guidelines for American recirculating sand filter systems are available below.

How Recirculating Sand Filter Systems Work:
Primary treated effluent is delivered to a pump tank that is designed to handle daily flows (Tank is sized for 0.5 to 1.5 days peak design flow). From there, a duplex alternating pump system doses the sand filter on a timed basis, ensuring controlled hydraulic loading. The system can use effluent rated turbine pumps that are housed in our patented Cool Guide. Effluent is evenly distributed across the sand filter through hydraulically activated sequencing valves that direct flow to a manifold and a network of evenly spaced PVC laterals with drilled orifices. Beneath the sand, underdrains collect the treated effluent to be delivered for recirculation or ultimate discharge.
